“People Opinion about the Environment Friendly Vehicles”

The theories that I have related with my popular culture topic the environment friendly vehicles are first and foremost myth and icon, ritual and stereotypes, heroes and celebrity and finally formulas. Among these I believe that the theories such as icon, ritual, celebrities and formulas relate to my topic the most. Considering the theory of myth it’s clear to say that my topic is a relatively new concept so there are no such related myths regarding environment friendly vehicles. Stereotype while is somewhat related as people don’t consider buying these vehicles believing that it’s a low profile vehicle because they are self oriented and are not conscious about the environment’s sustainability where they live in.

Toyota Prius being a first hybrid four wheeler is an icon in terms of environment friendly vehicles. Japanese firm Toyota was first to do so to follow other car manufacturers like Ford with their SUV named Escape and Chevrolet likewise.  Rituals included many activities, yearly rally of non smoke emitting vehicles on environment day which directly or indirectly supported the sustainable environment that encouraged people to its use. Likewise the topic of my analysis was pretty much influenced by the theories of celebrities like the promotional campaigns by the celebrities about the environment friendly vehicles increase the use of such vehicles which shows that people are very influenced by the celebrity figure in our society.

The most interesting theory and finding was about the formula used for the environment friendly vehicles. After some few research it was concluded that the environment friendly vehicles are no more different that the other normal vehicles but the only important and healthy invention besides the convention was an engine invented which fully supported the renewable energy sources. Knowing this thing was very interesting. The ritual was also very interesting to know because from the ancient time when the environment was so much healthier than we could ever imagine, there was a concept of transportation medium which made no effect on the environment. Since then there are many rituals performed till date.

Based on all of my analysis there has been a lot of improvement in my perception towards my topic. I decided to choose environment friendly vehicles as a popular culture as I thought that this particular concept is a new one. But when analyzing the theory of ritual I became aware that people were promoting the concept of environment friendly vehicles from the very past. Similarly I also had the perception that environment friendly vehicles are slow and not that attractive but through the theory of celebrities I came to know that even such great persons prefer it then why are we lacking behind. Lastly through the concept of environment friendly I got insight that only conventions are not always good, one should be creative for some inventions which will be necessary for anything to boost up which you want to create.   

Written Analysis 4

Formulas are some kind of techniques that are practiced while conducting certain activity. The activity formula may be something that has been practiced usually before termed as convention or introduce something new in the activity which we can consider as an invention. I will be talking about my topic which is the environment friendly vehicles. This formula theory is totally applicable to my choice of topic that is “People Thinking about Environment Friendly Vehicles”.

In terms of the environment friendly vehicles we consider the past when the motor vehicles that used non renewable energy made our life easier and day by day more luxurious vehicles made our life easier and faster likewise the formula for the environment friendly vehicles is no different than those vehicles. It is also made to roll on the road and facilitate the users; it also has the same dynamics as vehicles running on non renewable energies. In this context the formula can be defined as the convention.

The environment friendly vehicles are designed in such a way that it doesn’t need any non renewable energies, human or animal effort to run like the other vehicles. These vehicles totally run on renewable energies that are mostly unlimited and safe for the environment such as sun, electricity etc. Looking at this new formula for manufacturing we can term it is a totally new invention.

Applying these formulas we can contrast and compare what new things have been applied as a manufacturing and applied formula in any activities like movies, shows, video games etc besides those things that have been applied before. We can also get the insights that the formula changes over time with the change and development in technology and human thinking. 

Journal Article Analysis

My article for the analysis is Cinematic Carcerality: Prison Metaphors in Film from 2010 April issue of the Journal of Popular Culture which is written by Jan Alber. He works in English Department in University of Freibergin Germany as an assistant professor. Alber has been author and editor of many books and written works. Particularly the article mentioned above has discussed about the depth of the Film metaphor, Prison Metaphor and the use of Prison Metaphor in the films. In this article author has discussed many points like the types of prison metaphors, different seven ways of producing metaphors in films.

This article is about the metaphor of prison, film and the uses. According to the author  two types of the prison metaphors exists, the first one is  that attracts people to see prison as different thing and the another that describe a area of the outside world as a prison. At first taking the example of the metaphor that encourages people to see prison differently, article states that this metaphor are used in the many parts of the film which takes place physically in prison. The best example for this is the way Alber has stated that the prison can also be taken as womb and tomb. Analyzing the example from the womb side we can assume ourselves inside the prison as being reborn spiritually or having the new life inside prison as a caged person where as in the tomb side we can assume being in the prison like spiritually dead after being forbidden from the free world to the walls of the prison to face the social death which the inmates supposes as the entering of the dark tomb. Next point to focus is the ones that portray the area of the outside world as a prison. Author explains that these metaphors are available in the different scenario and this metaphor is bound to prevent someone from doing the thing one wants. We can elaborate this more as someone being not physically in prison but mentally he/she is coerced as being in a prison or trapped either way. Just for an instance we can assume a person bound in a marital relationship along with professional life or a teenager of a strict family and so on. This few examples can portray how caged the person in the examples will be feeling mentally though they are not physically caged.  Similarly, talking about the film metaphors I do not support the early critics that did not believe that film metaphors were possible as they are in reality. In the article there are seven ways for a metaphor to emerge. The article talks about seven ways of producing metaphors in film such as combination of anxious elements, Interaction between the auditory and visual level, Matching shots, Distortion, Focusing in the same entity in different views and among them some of them are more interesting to discuss about like the idea of matching shots. This is the presentation of two different things in a similar way either by the use of similar camera angles or same dialogue lines. The article has presented a example here of fence posts and Nazi’s  being same in a way that  they are both very organized but are lack of the emotions. Similarly the next one is the presentation of same thing in but in two distinctive ways, the thing that shows the metaphor is how the things like pointed wire fences, giant walls, and bars in non prison area forces us to think that it’s prison.

There are many points that the author has stated in the article and I agree to the author’s point. In the article author has clearly stated the prison metaphor and the types, film metaphor and the ways of producing the metaphors and the use of the prison metaphor in the films in a great way as stated in the above paragraph. The author has also beautifully inserted the example to support his main points through the film “The Shawshank Redemption” to prove his works. Through the film he has marvelously shown how the prison metaphor and the types used in the film. The example includes womb and the tomb idea as the prisoners in one side including Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) and Red (Morgan Freeman) takes the situation as being spiritually reborn in a new life where as the other side including “Fat Ass” (Frank Medrano) are mentally and spiritually dead as being deprived of the free life to be caged and being physically abused. Here, the first half thinks it as a womb and the second half takes it as a tomb to get decayed forever. Secondly, in the film “The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner” the character named Colin is treated badly by his mother like a jailed prisoner, next when Colin kisses his girl he sees fences behind him thirdly; when his mom and he went for his father insurance the gatekeeper opened the large gate. These wire fences, gates and huge walls made him like in prison outside too.

This article is all based on metaphor of films and prison metaphor as per the article. This article is obviously important as the films all include metaphors and the understanding of the metaphor gives us essential messages and entertainment too. Next is, including the metaphor in the films makes a good film just like the prison metaphor used in the film “The Shawshank Redemption” has made the film outstanding. This article has described that a film may have both positive metaphor “womb” and negative metaphor “tomb” and I agree to it as this prison metaphor helps to evaluate certain limitations in the world outside the prison so it weighs important ideological and serious influence.

Written Analysis 3

Heroes are someone who is characterized by their deeds which is derived from hard work, courage, strong determination and selflessness mission. Every work heroes perform is always for the betterment of the society. Whereas cult of celebrity is following and influence certain people have because of some extra ordinary creations, performances and characteristics a celebrity possess. Media plays a vital role in the fame and influence of any celebrity.   

For the environment friendly vehicles the early users and inventors are characterized as the heroes. In a way considering the earlier innovation in environment friendly vehicles cycles the hero is considered to be a French citizen named Comte Mede De Sivrac in 1790. I consider him as the hero inventing something that didn’t require non renewable energy. Meanwhile in terms of the four wheeler the inventors of the Hybrid cars the Japanese car company Toyota can be considered heroes.

In this particular time there are several celebrities focusing against the degradation in the environment and are hence preferring hybrid cars that run on renewable energies. People like Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz has promoted the environment friendly vehicles which helps in creating an awareness in the normal public which is because of the cult following they have as a celebrity and it has positive results thus far.

The concepts of heroes and the cult of the celebrities are very much necessary in the society to set a new culture as heroes and the celebrities are role model for many so whatever they promote will be developed in a form of culture sooner or later just like my topic of environment friendly vehicles turning as a culture of using it gradually day by day with the celebrities promoting and using it to conserve the environment and creating awareness to the normal citizens. 

Written Analysis (Analysis 2)

"Peoples Opinion about the environment friendly vehicles"

Rituals in literal meaning are the religious actions performed in a prescribed way practiced in a particular culture from generation to generation. In a way it’s like trying to give the reality to the myths.

Stereotype meanwhile is the behavior that tends to assume certain character of a person or a thing. In other words setting an image based on the first time experience with a person or a thing and drawing its character based on that particular event is what I believe stereotype means.

To evaluate the rituals involved in environment friendly vehicles I don’t believe there exists any. Being a relatively new innovation these sorts of vehicles don’t seem to have any rituals surrounding it. Meanwhile analyzing the concept of environment friendly vehicles time to time the bicycle rallies that are conducted throughout the world with the vision of GO GREEN can be considered as a rituals relating to environment friendly vehicles. In some way these rallies are conducted regularly in recent times. Hence I believe it’s a ritual in a way.

 Considering the stereotype involved in Environment friendly vehicles there exist both the side. One side supports the use of these vehicles while the other side completely ignores having negative stereotype. Those who consider the culture of riding environment friendly vehicles believe that they are being economic while also preserving the environment and saving the fuel. In this state of time there is bound to be the shortage of fuels in some day preserving these non renewable energy sources is valuable for future prosperity, similarly environment degradation also declines. Whereas those who have negative stereotype with respect to the environment friendly vehicles presume that the uses of environment friendly vehicles are just the waste of time and physical energy and being luxurious consider them tiresome and non fancy means of transportation.

Looking at the rituals and stereotype we can know that the concepts of environment friendly vehicles are from the past. The rituals are observed from the past limited to three wheelers and bicycles which are now upgraded into comfortable four wheeler powerful vehicles. From the stereotype that exist we can acknowledge that those people having negative stereotype gain those perspective in the time when less people where concern about the degradation of the environment as the environment was in balanced state and fuel was enough. Awareness to these people will be beneficial in keeping the environment friendly and back to the state it used to be.
